Ikea Instructions

Recently my wife bought a bookshelf from Ikea here in Atlanta. Every time I grab one if their items to load or unload it, I'm amazed at how heavy the very compact packages can be. They have thousands of items in a self-serve warehouse, organized by row and shelf number... kind of like a walk-in Amazon. Pretty cool.

When I open one of their products I always get a chuckle out of the included instructions. No words, just little stick figures doing things.

Here's my take on the instructions with the "Billy" bookshelf.

1) I smile when I think about my screwdrivers and my hammer. There's room for more tools... hint hint.

2) Being duct-taped to a wall is not cool. And look at this pile of boards... man.

3) Hey neighbor, I sure like that pencil behind your ear. Looks nice. Check out these boards.

4) Being duct taped to the wall, handcuffed, kind of stinks. It appears that the shelf has broken.

5) Everythings cool. Which way is East?

6) Oh man. Something fell off, and I can't read, drag.

7) Hey Ikea, I'm happy to inform you that something fell off.

The instructions are actually pretty intuitive, and I'm just making fun because it's not my idea. They work great, and I wish more companies would put this type of artwork in place. Bottom line, no one actually reads instructions, but illustrations are something we can usually understand.
